Pacemaker Implant: Making her the oldest woman to have successfully undergone the surgery in the private sector, 102-year-old Maya Devi from Panipat was implanted with a pacemaker by Dr Aparna Jaswal at the Fortis Escorts Heart Institute in the city. The operation has given a new lease of life to the patient, who was brought to the hospital following a stroke and having suddenly collapsed at home. Dr. Aparna Jaswal, (Best Cardiologist in Delhi) senior consultant in the Department of Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology at the hospital, who led a team of cardiologist and anaesthetists to perform the surgery in a record time of fewer than 20 minutes last week, said: “In the previous two cases, pacemakers were implanted in 105-year-old men at PGIMER Chandigarh and Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow.” Dr Aparna Jaswal Describe The pacemakers come in various forms we have a single chamber pacemaker, we have a dual-chamber pacemaker, we have the ventricular pacemaker. So, the typical longevity of these pacemakers is roughly around seven to 12 years depending upon which pacemaker we are using. And also depending upon the usage of a pacemaker in an individual patient, so a single chamber pacemaker can last as much as nine to 12 years. So can a dual-chamber pacemaker lasts roughly around nine to 12 years, the by ventricular pacemakers because they have to work more, that current utilization is more their battery drain obviously is a little more so they last roughly around six to nine years, depending upon the current usages of a patient.

3/4/2021 0 Comments (FAQs)Answered By Fortis Director Cardiologist And Electrophysiologist-Dr Aparna JaswalWell, it's time now for the viewer question segment on the show. And we're joined by Dr. Aparna Jaswal Director cardiologist & Electrophysiologist at Fortis Escort Heart Institute. Thanks so much, Dr for sparing your time, and let's listen to the first question. So my question to you is, what are the precautions that can be taken by students and school authorities to prevent the rise in increase in court cases? So I think one thing, which we all have to understand is that whether you're vaccinated or not, we are not going to let go of the mask, the social distancing, and the hand washes that we have been practicing from the past. So I think the mainstay that we have to understand to protect ourselves from COVID-19 continues to remain that we have to essentially not let go of the mask. And that holds true for the school as well as the school children, which needs to be reinforced, I think the biggest challenge that we have been facing is that the mask is not respected. And in fact, India has done much better than other countries as far as the mask is concerned. So we just need to reinforce this that we have to ensure our children continue to respect the mask, they do their hand wash and social distancing in school. And my question is, how long will it take for things to get back to normal with vaccines and people developing immunity? So I think this is a very young child who's speaking and it's a very, very appropriate question that comes from this person. So I think we should first have a lot of happiness within us that we have the vaccines around the corner, we are doing much better. Having said that, let's look at this year as the year of healing. And this is this 2021 is the year which would go by vaccinating all of us and subsequently following all the instructions, as I just mentioned, and I think the year 2021 will be the year of change. And until 2022 we will be largely free of this. All right. So 2022 is when you estimate that possibly things could go back to normal given that vaccinations have all began. Well, thank you so much, Dr.Aparna Jaswal Director Cardiologist as well for joining us and answering those questions.
